Labour Market Information and Marketing (LMIM) Unit

  • Databases to Support Employment Initiatives:

    LMIM successfully completed the implementation of the Kiribati Centralize Labour Market Database. This database is recording the Job Seekers (JS) information. It will assist in determining our labour supply and labour demand; information that are vital for our decision making for marketing purposes and filling the gaps in our labour market. It will be utilize as a marketing tool to support MEHR’s domestic and overseas employment Initiatives.

  • In summary, the Kiribati Centralize Labour Market Database is:

    - Upgrade from manual registration to e-registration.

    - It is of International Standard

    - Efficient and quality assured, especially in data storage and recovery.

    - Support domestic and overseas employment initiatives.

Overseas Employment (OE) Unit

  • Databases to support overseas employment initiatives:

    - Utilizing the skills of its existing staff to develop the database which is now up and running.

    - The database was fully completed in August 2020.

    - Training on data entry has been conducted to the internal staffs.


  • Continuous support to overseas workers during the lockdown due to Covid-19:

    Creation of a shared mailbox for efficient responses to all overseas worker's issues and enquiries

  • Strengthening relations with Island councils to support out-reach programs on their respective Islands.

    - Ongoing communication and responding to the Island council’s requests and enquiries from time to time is one of the priority tasks of the unit.

    - Outer Islands out-reach programs has been planned and visits will commence as soon as Full council members has been selected.

Occupational Health & Safety (OSH) Unit

  • 51 workplaces visited to ensure compliance with 'Occupational Health and Safe Act, 2016.'
  • Labour Department support to the New Zealand Pacific Access Category(PAC) through:

    Arranging with KIT the opportunity for successful applicant to undergo trainings that would boost their knowledge and skills and enhance their chances for job hunting. Trainings include:

    - Basic English Training

    - Skills training

    - 24 Successful applicants


  • Strengthening relations with social partners:
  • Strengthening relationship with Island councils to support out-reach programs on their respective islands:

    - Out-reach to outer Islands and conduct labour inspection with existing workplaces. A prospect plan to engage and work closely with the Island council clerk regarding labour inspection activities on outer islands.
